Lanka Alzheimer’s Foundation is an Approved Charity (Registered Charity Number 1225). It is a registered volunteer based community organization. The Foundation's Mission is, "To do all that is possible to improve the quality of life of those with Alzheimer’s and related disorders (dementia) and support their families and carers to cope with the challenges generated by those conditions and provide sustainable information and practical modalities to those reaching their senior years, to maintain the rigors of healthy living and commit to stay engaged throughout those years".
Brief History of LAF... LAF which was incorporated in March 2001, is registered as an NNGO and an Approved Charity. Tami Tamitegama responded to an appeal made in 1999 by Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI), to set up an Association in Sri Lanka. The common mandate undertaken by the Alzheimer's family world wide is to build awareness; serve, love and care for persons with dementia and support their families; provide relevant education; undertake research into causes and cures; and provide practical information to keep seniors happy, healthy and engaged. The Foundation exists and operates on the generosity of the community of international friends and associates - personal and corporate. LAF has an impressive array of services on the drawing board to serve an extraordinarily growing population of seniors, including expatriates - the establishment of the Dementia Services and Information Centre; mobile services; communicate with seniors, elders' homes and retired persons organisations; initiate relevant professional training and educational facilities and encourage indigenous research into causes and cures. 2004 Aisa Pacific Meeting at Sri Lanka |
